Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania Hosts 50th Anniversary Concert Celebrating Iconic Song “Could It Be I’m Fallin’ in Love”

Aliquippa, PA – A remarkable celebration is set for Saturday, November 16, 2024, as Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania (BGCWPA) hosts a 50th Anniversary Concert in honor of the classic hit “Could It Be I’m Fallin’ in Love.” Written by Pittsburgh-area natives, Mervin and Melvin Steals, the song became an American favorite when recorded by The Spinners in 1972. The Steals Brothers, also known as “Mystro & Lyric,” will commemorate this milestone with a fundraising event to benefit the newly formed BGCWPA Aliquippa Clubhouse.

This special concert will take place at 7:00 PM at the Moon Area High School Auditorium, located in Moon Township, PA. Headlining the event is none other than Russell Thompkins, Jr., the legendary lead singer of The Stylistics, performing his 21st-century rendition of the Steals Brothers’ timeless song. Also taking the stage will be The Trammps, featuring Earl Young, along with an opening set by the regionally popular Bill Henry Band.

Emceed by Pittsburgh Steelers three-time Super Bowl champion J.T. Thomas, the night promises to deliver an unforgettable musical experience while raising much-needed support for youth programs in Aliquippa. Proceeds from the concert will directly benefit BGCWPA’s Aliquippa Clubhouse, which is dedicated to providing local youth with a safe, nurturing environment where they can grow, learn, and achieve.

“It’s truly special to celebrate 50 years of a song that has touched so many lives,” said Dr. Melvin Steals, who is also a member of the Greater Aliquippa Advisory Committee. “At the same time, we are investing in the future of Aliquippa’s youth by supporting the new Boys & Girls Club and its life-changing programs.”  The Greater Aliquippa Advisory Committee was instrumental in opening the Boys & Girls Club in Aliquippa Jr./Sr. High School earlier this year.

For 135 years, BGCWPA has been a beacon of hope for thousands of children across southwestern Pennsylvania, offering programs that prepare them for success in school, work, and life. With the addition of the Aliquippa Clubhouse, the organization continues its commitment to creating opportunities for all youth, no matter their background or circumstance.

Tickets for the concert are available now at bgcwpaaliquippaclubhouse.ludus.com. All proceeds from the event will support BGCWPA’s mission to advance the potential of greater Aliquippa local youth.
