A Somerset County organization is helping students with their remote learning during this cold winter weather.
The Boys and Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania operates the Clubhouse for Kids in kindergarten through 8th grade at Georgian Place in Somerset.
Organizers said the clubhouse began during COVID to help students with their virtual learning when many parents had to go back to work.
The clubhouse also offers services on vacation days during the school year, a place where kids can go and take part in fun activities.
6th grader Marissa Knopsnyder said, “This is an FID day, so we have to do schoolwork on Zoom, because of cold weather, really cold weather.”
Valerie Evans, Youth Development Manager, said, “We offer care through the day for the parents who are working and are unable to stay at home and support their children with the remote learning and virtual days with the cold weather. A lot of families don’t have that support to leave their child at home, or to work from home for the day.”
The clubhouse operates every day from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
