Fitness and recreation programs are structured in our daily rotations in addition to being offered as specialty programs at various Clubhouse locations throughout the year. Our dedicated staff members ensure that these activities address fitness as well as positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment, and the development of social skills.

Penguins Ball Hockey:

In partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins, this 8 week ball hockey clinic will learn the fundamentals of the game and learn the Penguins programming while participating in small games and fun drills! This program is open to all kids of all abilities. 

 

Days: Wednesdays 

Dates: 3/26, 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23 and 4/30

In partnership with INK CARES, youth will get to experience a high energy hip hop dance program learning dance moves to different upbeat music while having fun! Perfect for all youth of all dance abilities.

See Her Be Her Girls Basketball Academy: 

The See Her Be Her Girls Basketball Academy focuses on empowering and inspiring young girls through the game of basketball. See Her Be Her is coached by an all female coaching staff, led by BGCWPA Sports Manager and former women’s college basketball coach, Liz Stieg. This program, designed for girls in grades 3-8, combines skill development, mentoring and guest speakers to give our girls the skills and confidence to be successful on and off the court. The most unique part of each session includes the opportunity for our girls to connect to strong female guest speakers. Guest speakers range from various backgrounds including current and former WNBA players, as well as college players and coaches who are ready to empower the next generation of women to follow their dreams.

Junior Pickleball

This is a great opportunity for kids to learn the fastest growing sports in the country, the game of pickleball. Rules and basic fundamentals will be the focus of this introductory course. Players will get the chance to work with adult pickleball enthusiasts and play other kids in various games throughout the six-week session.

Special Olympics Bocce Ball:
Let’s team up together for an 8-week Bocce Ball Program! Bocce Ball, as a Special Olympics sport, provides people with special needs the opportunity to have social contact, develop physically, and to gain self confidence. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western PA is proud to partner with the Special Olympics to provide bocce ball to athletes of all abilities! Space is limited to join today!

Iron City Boulders Rock Climbing:
Join BGCWPA and Iron City Boulders as youth will have the opportunity to learn how to rock climb with the help of trained instructors. Each session includes 30 minutes of instruction followed by 60 minutes of open climbing.

Train & Play Basketball:
Join us at our Shadyside Clubhouse for our spring Train & Play basketball program. This program is designed to encompass a positive environment and focus on skill development while having fun! Each week youth will learn skills and fundamentals for half the session and end with small competitive games. All skill levels are welcome!

Hard Hitters Volleyball:
Join BGCWPA and the Hard Hitters Volleyball Club of the University of Pittsburgh for a 6-week co-ed volleyball program offered at our Shadyside Clubhouse. Youth will learn the fundamentals and play fun games. All Skill Abilities are welcome!
