Outlet Connection

Outlet Connection is a new retail venture owned and operated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania.  With start-up funding from the Alcoa Foundation and an anonymous foundation, this teen oriented retail venture opened its doors in August 1999.  The store offers a unique shopping experience to customers, while providing job and entrepreneurial opportunities for teenage members of the Boys & Girls Club.  After tax, profits from the store are used to provide educational scholarships for the teen employees and to expand teen guidance and leadership development services.

Through involvement with the Outlet Connection, teens educate themselves with hands-on experience.  They learn skills that are applicable to real life situations.  They internalize integrated creativity, responsibility and the values of the Boys & Girls Club.  Teenagers that shop in the Outlet Connection are able to afford the highest quality clothing at very discounted prices.  Their self-esteem and confidence is boosted.  Outlet Connection is also having a direct impact on the residents of the urban community of Lawrenceville.
